The Travelling Circus Wagon
Art Is For Everybody
It is important to Rainbow Militia that art is accessible to everybody, no matter where they come from. This spring, Rainbow Militia and the Unbuilt Library will be building a travelling circus wagon. The sides of the wagon will fold out, revealing a beautiful stage with aerial dance and circus capabilities.
Starting in May, 2019 the wagon will visit 10 neighborhoods throughout Denver to present free shows featuring circus and live music. These neighborhoods have been chosen because over 20% of the residents are below the poverty line and a majority of residents have little or no easy access to the arts.
Featuring stilt walking, contortion, juggling, aerial dance, acrobatics and more, these shows will bring the community together around an evening of art.
These shows are free for the community, but they still cost money to produce, consider giving to our campaign to help pay our artists and ensure shows like this continue on into the future!
Speaking My Language
While dance and circus is largely a non-verbal art-form, all spoken word will be translated into languages that make the most sense for the neighborhoods we visit. Two ringleaders speaking both English and Spanish along with partnerships with neighborhood translators will make sure that no matter who our visitors are, they feel included and welcomed.
Each neighborhood circus will include a day of fun!
Collaborations with neighborhood pools, rec centers and parks mean that neighbors will be able to experience all the summer activities early in the day.
Circus workshops will teach our neighbors how to tumble, juggle, hula hoop, go upside down, clown and more.
Open mic style talent shows will allow neighborhood artists to share their talents from the circus wagon stage.
Booths from neighborhood organizations and businesses will showcase the amazing things each neighborhood has to offer.
Finally, a showcase of incredible circus and live music will cap off the event, offering the perfect opportunity for a picnic dinner with the family. These shows will feature a mix of carefully curated circus students from throughout Colorado, along with talented professional circus performers and Denver's finest bands and musicians, in an unforgettable evening.
Each show will feature a different band and cast so each evening will be a new and exciting experience!
We are excited to have chosen the following neighborhoods for our inaugural 10x the Impact summer!
May 18, 2019 - Barnum
June 1, 2019 - Sun Valley
July 27, 2019 - Curtis Park
August 3, 2019 - Elyria- Swansea
This Is YOUR Circus
These shows will be more than just a presentation of circus talent. They will be a true gathering of the community. For each neighborhood, Rainbow Militia will partner with neighborhood associations, artists, businesses, and non-profit organizations to truly showcase these vibrant communities.
Do you have a talent that you want to share? From garage bands to rollerskating disco dancers, we want you on our stage.
Students on Stage
Rainbow Militia will pair with local aerial and dance studios to host talented teen to adult circus students on the Circus Wagon stage. In order to prepare for each show, Rainbow Militia professional artists will work with students over a series of workshops to fine-tune and hone their skills.
Not only will this offer these incredible individuals the opportunity to strut their stuff to live music alongside the pros, but it will ensure longevity, inclusion, and growth within the community.

An Invisible Circus - In Plain Sight
In August of 2019, the wagon will park within the Camp of the Travellers, a mini circus outside of the warehouse hosting the immersive forest experience. While the larger experience is happening within the warehouse, a smaller showcase of Denver talent will be taking place in the camp. Called the Zabiti Circus, each evening will feature between 8-10 acts of Denver musicians, dancers, circus performers, and talents of any kind.
This will be a donation based performance making it accessible to all income levels and all proceeds will be split between performers.

Showcase Your Business
Are you a business in one of the 10 inaugural neighborhoods? Showcase what you have to offer at a table or through a sponsorship! Not only will you get to share your passion with your community, but you will support a more vibrant and accessible arts scene in Denver.
